The hospital in Brezno celebrated 50 years of its existence. Five decades of care, help, and dedication to the people of Horehronie and the surrounding regions were commemorated by a ceremonial event that brought together hospital employees, city residents, and important partners, including Železiarne Podbrezová.
Železiarne Podbrezová – a Long-Term Partner of the Hospital
The history of the hospital is closely intertwined with Železiarne Podbrezová, which was among the key partners in its construction and has long supported its development. The hospital was established in response to the region’s growing need for quality and accessible healthcare for all residents, including the employees of the steelworks and their families. The long-term cooperation has been coordinated by the company’s CEO and Chairman of the Board, Vladimír Soták, who regularly emphasizes the importance of healthcare for the entire region. Both institutions maintain strong ties, and the hospital continues to serve the whole Horehronie area.
Supporting the hospital has always been among the core values of Železiarne Podbrezová – because a strong industry and a healthy community are built on the same foundations.
A Celebration of Gratitude and Recognition
The ceremony was opened by the Mayor of Brezno, Tomáš Abel, who thanked everyone who contributed to the hospital’s development:
“I wish the staff satisfaction in their work and the ability to provide the best possible care for patients from our city, the Horehronie region, and beyond. I also believe that the hospital will always have leadership that supports and motivates its team.”
A New Book and Recognition for Long-Serving Employees
On the occasion of the anniversary, a publication on the history of the hospital was released, prepared by MUDr. Štefan Čemsák and his team of collaborators. The book was introduced by Tomáš Mydlo, Tomáš Abel, and MUDr. Zuzana Kónyová.
Several long-term employees who have devoted decades to the hospital were recognized: MUDr. Zuzana Višňovská, MUDr. Ján Mačkin, Anna Kubušová, Ľudmila Zvaríková, Eva Chudíková, and Marta Vengerová.
New Spaces for New Beginnings
A key part of the celebration was the opening of the renovated section of the gynecology and maternity ward. Head physician MUDr. Martin Mičej expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the renewal. Mayor Abel highlighted his personal commitment:
“Dr. Mičej put a piece of his own work and heart into the renovation. I thank him and the entire team for their tremendous effort and two years of dedication in transforming the ward for future mothers.”
The hospital thus continues its modernization efforts and improvement of conditions for both patients and medical staff.
A Celebration for Everyone
The event was not only about official speeches – the hospital received a blessing from firefighter chaplain Peter Krajč, and a rich accompanying program was prepared for the public. Children enjoyed the popular duo Paci Pac, bouncy castles, face painting, and a performance by the children’s folklore group Kýčera. Demonstrations by police dog handlers, rescuers, and food stalls contributed to a pleasant community atmosphere.
A Place of Help, Trust, and Hope
The 50th-anniversary celebration showed that the strength of the region lies in cooperation – between the city, healthcare workers, industry, and the people the hospital serves. It remains a place where professionalism meets humanity, and where its mission is fulfilled every day – to help, to heal, and to bring hope.
