Tubes suitable for welding and threading

Seamless steel tubes for threading and welding are produced by hot rolling. Continuously cast blooms are semi-finished product that is used as the starting material for these tubes. Threaded tubes have a wide range of use especially in the construction field. They are used for water transfer and distribution of all kinds of liquids and gasses.

The limits for using this group of tubes as far as the level of pressure is concerned and the type of transfer media is used are given by the appropriate directives that are valid for pipeline construction, distribution and pipes. Tubes are made from carbon and alloyed steel.

Lengths of tubes

Types of supplied length of tubes are:
(a) random
(b) fixed
(c) exact:

L = 2–6 m 0 +10 mm
L = 6–12 m 0 +15 mm
L > 12 m 0 + upon agreement

Testing of the tubes for threading

Tubes are tested with nonspecified test.

Tests:
(a) leak tightness (pressure 50 bar for 5 seconds or according to EN 10246–1),
(b) visual inspection,
(c) tensile test,
(d) bend test,
(e) flattening test.

Tubes surface protection

The pipes are supplied without temporary anticorrosion protection.

While ordering, it is necessary to agree upon the method and means of temporarily protecting the surface of the tubes during transportation and storage.

Ends of tubes

The tubes with deburred ends or ends customized for welding.

Deburring applies to:

Deburring
  • Tube OD: 19,0 – 90,0 mm,
  • Tube WT: 2,0 – 10,0 mm,
  • Tube lengths: 3 – 7 m,
  • Deburring angle, α (alpha): 30°+5°, 37,5°±2,5°, 45°±2,5°
  • Dimension, c: 1,6 ± 0,8 mm

Tubes packaging

(a) tubes bound with a steel band,
(b) tubes wrapped in plastic sheets, burlap,
(c) tubes in wooden crates.

Tubes are bound with steel band into bundles with weight 1 000–3 500 kg.

Tubes are visually straight.
Max deviation 0.2 % of tube length.

Usually the tubes are supplied as hot rolled. Only tubes with DN 6 -10, or possibly tubes of other dimensions may be supplied after an agreement as cold drawn tubes, and after forming, heat treated.

Surface of the tubes is appropriate to the way of production. Upon request, tube surface may be taken care of by a definite surface insulation (tar, PVC tape or extruded PVC according to DIN 30670).
