The summer events at Ľupča Castle once again attracted hundreds of enthusiastic visitors this year. Unique night tours and reenactments from the life of Magister Donč, one of the castle’s former owners, offered guests an unforgettable experience.
Following last year’s success, members of the group “Projekt Donč” returned to the castle, bringing medieval times back to life in an authentic way. Period costumes, a historical camp in front of the castle gates, a distinctive medieval dialect, and detailed scenes from noble life transported people back through the centuries.
A July Weekend Full of History and Mystery
This year’s performance centered on the theme of hunting – a favorite and extravagant pastime of medieval nobility. During two unforgettable evenings, visitors encountered the lord of the castle himself, Magister Donč, portrayed by Dávid Gregora from the group Milites Nobiles.
“Hunting in the Middle Ages wasn’t just entertainment – it was a way to demonstrate power, wealth, and social status. We brought this atmosphere directly to the castle courtyard so people could experience it firsthand,” said Gregora.
Visitors from Slovakia and Abroad
Guests came from across Slovakia, but foreign languages could also be heard – proof that Ľupča Castle and its events are gaining increasing popularity. The program included international participants, such as guests from Poland who represented members of the Golden Horde.
Tours lit only by glowing torches, accompanied by period music and expert narration, created a magical atmosphere that captivated the audience. Many lingered in the courtyard long after the event ended, holding on to the unique impressions and momentarily escaping into the past.

Where the Walls Tell Stories
The authentic portrayal of historical events further highlighted the uniqueness of Ľupča Castle. As Dávid Gregora explained, their team focuses on visiting and reviving castles historically connected to Magister Donč. They feel at home in Slovenská Ľupča – thanks to the facilities and support provided by the local community.
Železiarne Podbrezová also play a significant role, not only as the proud owner of the castle but also as its active restorer. Thanks to their long-term support, the castle has become a cultural and historical center of the region, once again coming to life with its rich story.
“In those days, castles didn’t have the capacity to house entire noble entourages. That’s why they built camps just outside the walls – just like we do today,” Gregora said, describing the concept behind the historical camp that visitors could explore.

Summer Continues – A Program Full of Experiences
The summer season at Ľupča Castle is in full swing. Visitors can join guided tours of the upper castle with an exhibition dedicated to the Čutek family every day except Monday. The lower castle offers an interactive walk with twelve stops that bring the history of this important medieval site to life.
Until the end of the summer holidays, guests can also look forward to falconry demonstrations and the family-friendly “Dragon Days” festival, held during the last weekend of August.
Ľupča Castle continues to serve as a vibrant center of history, culture, and unique experiences. Its restoration and growing popularity prove that even medieval walls can pulse with life. Especially thanks to the dedication and care of Železiarne Podbrezová.
