The football club Železiarne Podbrezová is having another exceptional season and is once again among the top six clubs in the highest Slovak football competition, the Niké League. In the first round of the playoffs, it wasn’t just about goals and points on the table – football was once again playing a role in making a difference.
The entire round was themed in pink to mark International Women’s Day, focusing on women. The Niké League, together with its sponsor Niké, supported the Amazonky association, which has been helping women affected by breast cancer for over ten years.
For every goalkeeper save in the first round of the Niké League playoffs, 500 euros were donated to the association, raising an estimated total of over 20,000 euros. Players wore pink streaks on their faces to show support for Amazonky, and goalkeepers wore shirts with the pink ribbon symbol, which will be auctioned off after the round.
